So I would very proudly say that Friday through Thursday evening (almost an entire week) I was pretty impressed with myself over all. I was on my weight loss target, eating right, drinking the right amount of water, making and completing my workouts... But life sometimes throws you a curve ball or speed bump.
I had to return to Ft. Worth for a family emergency immediately after workon Thursday afternoon. I left from work, still wearing my scrubs. I had to cancel my evening workout and find food on the road. I stopped at a Soup and Salad restaurant thinking I would find healthier choices there than fast food. I was sorely disappointed and ending up paying $8 for water, an apple and some packaged lettuce. All that to say that my lack of calories and stress level made for a 7:00pm run through Whataburger. I had convinced myself at this point that I would just use it as my cheat meal for the week and be good on Sunday. I got the kids chicken finger meal and consumed a small order of fries, 2 chicken fingers and 2 pieces of butter toast in a horrible way. I felt terrible guilt and anger at myself.
The next day I was determined to start fresh and was doing well all day. I had egg whites for breakfast, strawberries for a snack and stopped at Cotton Patch to get a salad on the road. It was absolutely horrible. The lettuce was rubbery and the grilled chicken was fatty. I barely ate any of it and felt stupid for thinking a place that specializes in blue cheese and fried fat entrees would have a decent salad. All in all, eating out is not so much fun anymore. I enjoy preparing my meals and controlling the ingredients, the freshness, the organic/non hormone meat etc.
I had a friend come visit and they hadn't eaten all day. I was decently hungry as well due to the fact I hadn't eaten enough that day. I was proud of myself for driving 7 hours in less than 24 hours and actually driving straight to the gym from Ft. Worth. But my workout was severely lacking and I was exhausted from lack of sleep the last 2 days and stressed from driving and missing work and the personal stress. I came home after burning a little over 200 calories. I was feeling defeated and when we went out to eat that night, my plan to simply get a salad turned into 2 pieces of bread bean dip, salad and a steak with handful of salt ladden fries. As a result the scale today not only showed no gain, but due to two horrible meal choices I was actually up from my original weigh in. I couldn't believe it. All that hard work, all the precise meal planning, and that sweaty workouts to mess up twice and be at -ground zero!! As defeated as I feel I can only learn and move forward. I had an amazing workout this morning at community workout and burned 635 calories. I then made my weekly grocery run and stocked the fridge full of strictly veggies and protein. I am going to take a nap, a few deep breaths and go at it again to aim for a total 1,000 calorie burn today. I will overcome.
Be Better,
Whittney C.
